A woman is on the run after a man was stabbed in inner-city Brisbane, police say.

Paramedics were called to a Spring Hill property just before 4.30pm (AEST) on Friday following reports the man had been stabbed in his abdomen and back.

He was rushed to hospital in a critical condition and is currently undergoing surgery at the Royal Brisbane Hospital.

Police say they are now trying to track down a woman believed to be his attacker.

"We're still trying to gather information on who the suspect is," Inspector Daniel Bragg said.
