An American woman has sued Google after she was hit by a car when given wrong directions by its Google Maps service.

Lauren Rosenberg used her Blackberry to find directions while she was out walking in the US state of Utah, but she says a busy highway was incorrectly labelled as a small side street.

She says she was hit by a car as a result, and wants $US100,000 ($A118,000) from Google, and the driver who hit her, to cover her injuries.
