Woman wakes from 27-year coma in Germany

A woman from the UAE has woken up in a German clinic after being in a coma for 27 years, following a car crash in 1991.

A woman has woken up from a 27-year coma in a clinic in northern Bavaria, Germany.

The woman, from the United Arab Emirates, suffered a car accident in 1991 when she was 32.

After stints in numerous hospitals, she landed in the Schoen Clinic in the town of Bad Aibling in Bavaria, where she began responding to stimulation for the first time last June.

Clinic spokeswoman Astrid Reining said she had been treated with a mix of medication, operations and physiotherapy.

The woman has a 32-year-old son, who was just four at the time of the crash.

"I never gave up on her because I always had a feeling that one day she will wake up," he told UAE-based news outlet The National.
