A body has been found in the hunt for a missing woman onboard an ultralight plane when it crashed into a Victorian lake.

The ultra-light fixed wing plane crashed at Lake Eildon near Mountain Bay, in the state's Alpine region about 12.20pm on Saturday, police said.

The pilot, in his 40s, survived the crash and was picked up by a fishing boat but his female passenger was not found.

Authorities will resume the search for the plane on Sunday and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau have been told about the crash.
