Woman's body found in north Queensland

A woman's body has been found eight days after a woman went missing trying to cross a flooded creek in north Queensland.

A body likely to be that of a missing north Queensland woman has been found, police say.

The Rossville woman, 34, was last seen walking into River Road Causeway at Wallaby Creek on December 27.

Parts of north Queensland were inundated with rain over Christmas, flooding many waterways and catchments.

The body was found four kilometres from the causeway on Thursday by a member of the public.

Formal identification has not been established but the body is believed to be the missing Rossville woman, police say in a statement on Friday.

Authorities started searching for the woman on December 28 after her friends noticed she hadn't returned to her home.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
