Women's Big Bash final sells out

The Women's Big Bash League final between the Sydney Sixers and Brisbane Heat will be played in front of a packed house with the game officially sold out.

The Women's Big Bash League final is sold out after Cricket Australia confirmed all tickets had been snapped up for Saturday's decider between the Sydney Sixers and Brisbane Heat.

The last of the 5,000 tickets for the Drummoyne Oval clash were sold on Friday night, in what will be the first stand-alone final for the competition away from the men's tournament.

Cricket Australia (CA) officials are also hoping for a huge ratings win, with the Australia Day match leading into the day-night men's Test at the Gabba and potentially threatening to break a record of 433,000 viewers for a WBBL match set earlier this summer.

It comes after a mega summer for the women's side of the sport, after Australia won the World Twenty20 in November before last weekend's thrilling WBBL semi-finals.

Both Brisbane and the Sixers' wins came down to classy pieces of fielding on the last ball, with the Sydney side's win over the Melbourne Renegades also going to a super over.

"It was a ridiculous day of cricket and one that was great for our game and the viewers," Sixers and Australia's wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy said.

"The skill level that was on display, the athleticism, it just show the new brand of women's cricket that is out there and everyone is being exposed to.

"It shows what happens when you give domestic cricketers around the country the capacity to train full-time, look what they can achieve in the small space of 12 months.

"Imagine what they can achieve in 10 years. It's been great to witness and the weekend was a culmination in all those things."

The news comes at a significant time for the competition, as it moves to its own stand-alone spot at the start of next summer using similar boutique venues to Drummoyne.

CA revealed this month they were considering pushing for an IPL-style international-free window around the league, as it has set itself up as the game's premier women's T20 competition.

Organisers have also set a goal to pack the MCG for next March's T20 World Cup final, and in turn setting a world record crowd at a stand-alone women's event.
