Malcolm Turnbull will be briefed on Europe's response to the Syrian refugee crisis when he meets with two key leaders on Sunday.
The prime minister will discuss the crisis and other issues with European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker and European Council president Donald Tusk on the sidelines of the G20 summit in the Turkish resort city of Antalya.
European leaders on Friday offered Turkey, which is the temporary home of 2.2 million refugees, a three billion euro package for refugee camps.
But European countries themselves are failing to tackle the escalating problem, with fewer than 150 people resettled to date out of the promised 160,000.
Australia is working to permanently resettle the first of 12,000 refugees by the end of the year.
US President Barack Obama, who arrived in Antalya on Sunday morning, has urged fellow G20 members to consider refugees not only a humanitarian issue but "an economic opportunity worth seizing".
