World problems need women's perspective: Croatia's UN candidate

Croatia's nominee for the next Secretary General of the United Nations says the world body would benefit from a woman as its head.

There are four women among the nine official candidates in line to replace Ban Ki Moon.

Former Croatian Foreign Minister Vesna Pusic says the UN has been led by a man since its foundation more than 70 years ago.

But she says some of the world's most serious problems affect women in particular, and it's time to begin addressing them through what she regards as a uniquely female perspective.

Dr Pusic started by telling Marijana Buljan from SBS Radio's Croatian program about the new election process that saw candidates questioned by UN member states for the first time.
