World's longest piano cadenza to take the stage

The Australian Ballet will take the stage in Melbourne tomorrow night and, while all eyes will be on the dancers, one of the most important performances will happen out of sight.

In the orchestra pit, one of the country's most promising young pianists Vietnamese refugee Hoang Pham will perform the world's longest piano cadenza.

The 29-year-old was hand-picked for the task, marking a new chapter in his illustrious career.

Hoang was hailed a “child prodigy” after a Casio manager overheard him toying with an electronic keyboard in a shopping mall.

Since then he's been no stranger to large crowds, but says this performance will be different.
