Former top-ranked tennis player Caroline Wozniacki has been chosen to be Denmark's flag-bearer at the opening ceremony of the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Explaining its decision, the Danish Olympic committee says the 25-year-old Wozniacki is one of "most successful tennis players" of the past decade.

On Twitter, Wozniacki called it "a dream come true."

The national Olympic committee says Wozniacki is the 25th Dane to bear the flag at the Olympics and only the third woman.
