Wrestling world champ banned for life

Iranian world champion wrestler Amir Ali Akbari has been banned for life for a second steroid offence two months after finishing a two-year ban.

Iranian wrestler Amir Ali Akbari has been banned for life and stripped of his world Greco-Roman heavyweight title for doping.

Wrestling's governing body, FILA, says Ali Akbari tested positive for anabolic steroids at the world championships at Budapest in September.

FILA says his results are disqualified and the gold medal in the 120kg class awarded to Heiki Nabi of Estonia.

The 26-year-old Ali Akbari got a life ban because it was his second offence involving anabolic steroids.

He returned to action only in July after serving a previous two-year ban.

Ali Akbari was world champion in 2010 in the 96kg class.
