Wu fifth in 10m platform at world champs

Australian diver Melissa Wu has claimed fifth in the women's 10m platform at the world championships in Hungary.

Australia's Melissa Wu has wrapped up her diving world championships campaign with a fifth-placing in the final of the women's 10m platform.

Wu was the 11th qualifier for Wednesday's final in Budapest, Hungary and her chances for a first medal looked slim when she was sitting in sixth after her second dive.

She recovered slightly when her next three dives were all scored the fifth-highest of the 12-person field, but she finished more than 21 points outside the top-three.

Malaysia's Jun Hoong Cheong took gold over Chinese favourites Yajie Si and Qian Ren, who placed second and third respectively.

It was the three-time Olympian Wu's fourth event at the championships - her biggest workload at an international tournament.

The 25-year-old, who won Olympic silver at Beijing in 2008, failed to pick up a medal.

She was fifth in the women's 10m synchro alongside Taneka Kovchenko, 12th in the mixed 10m team event with Australia's Matthew Carter and seventh in the mixed 10m synchro final with Domonic Bedggood.

Meanwhile on Wednesday, Australian James Connor has reached the men's 3m springboard final, qualifying in eighth.
