SA-BEST leader Nick Xenophon has arrived at his Adelaide party to watch the South Australian state election vote count.
Mr Xenophon stopped to thank volunteers and supporters as he entered the Palace Nova Cinema, after spending the day at polling booths in a last-minute grab at votes.
Federal Nick Xenophon Team senator Stirling Griff arrived shortly before Mr Xenophon, and said he believed SA-BEST could win at least two seats.
Many of SA-BEST's 36 lower house candidates are expected to join their leader at the cinema.
Earlier, Mr Xenophon said he'd be a "mug" to get sidetracked by last-minute opinion polls which place his party well behind the Liberals and Labor in primary support at this weekend's South Australian election.
The former senator said he was feeling optimistic and had received a lot of positive feedback from voters outside the booth.
"I think it's going to be tough, it's going to go down to the wire," he said.
Mr Xenophon is standing against Liberal MP Vincent Tarzia in the seat of Hartley, and is tipped to miss out.
"Don't write me off quite yet. It's trying to be tough. I'm trying to defy political gravity by standing ina lower house seat where both major party are going hell for leather in the seat."
The poll had primary support for the Liberals at 34 per cent with Labor on 31 per cent and SA-BEST slipping to 18 per cent.
The results were down significantly on a poll earlier this month which had Mr Xenophon's party at 21 per cent, and we're way off its peak in December when it attracted 32 per cent to lead the two major parties.
