The Australian Electoral Commission has formally approved the Centre Alliance as the new name of the former Nick Xenophon Team.

The former Nick Xenophon Team has received formal approval to change its name to the Centre Alliance.

The Australian Electoral Commission approved the application on Friday, as well as a new logo depicting a circle within a circle.

Mr Xenophon spent two decades in South Australian and federal politics but has now resumed his Adelaide-based legal practice, leaving two senators and a lower house MP to carry on the Centre Alliance's federal parliamentary work.
