Xenophon secures three SA Senate seats

Nick Xenophon's party has secured three South Australian Senate seats while Labor gets three and the coalition takes four.

Independent senator Nick Xenophon has scored three South Australian Senate seats, while Family First's Bob Day hung on for last spot.

The Australian Greens lose one spot in South Australia, with Sarah Hanson-Young declared the winner of the party's only seat by the Australian Electoral Commission on Tuesday.

Government minister Simon Birmingham and opposition Senate leader Penny Wong also keep their spots in the upper house.
