Mining giant Xstrata is guilty of adding to the "fear campaign" over the proposed mining super profits tax, Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard says.
The company announced on Thursday it was suspending work on two Queensland projects because of the controversial tax plan.
Ms Gillard says this was just part of a wider fear campaign being run by the resources industry.
She has called for a rational debate on the issue but says she expects more such claims from mining companies.
"We're seeing a fear campaign at the moment, we've seen these fear campaigns before.

"What we've got to see is a calm debate, not a fear campaign, not claims being made that aren't accurate," Ms Gillard told reporters in western Sydney on Friday.
"The aim here is that Australians get a fair share of the mineral wealth that is in our ground and belongs to all of us. "I suspect we'll see more claims."
