The parent-company of XXXX beverages in Queensland has denied union claims its iconic Brisbane brewery will be shut down.

Management from Japanese controlled parent-company Lion notified staff in June the Castlemaine Perkins brewery in Milton would be shut down, United Voice co-ordinator Damien Davie told AAP on Monday.

Other workers had received threats the plant would close if negotiations to scrap full time jobs in favour of labour-hire, part-time and casual positions were unsuccessful, Mr Davie said.

"The continued push to bring in labour-hire employees and casualise the workforce is the main reason cited by management when threatening workers with closing the plant," he added.

Lion rejected the claims, issuing a statement saying it was pursuing the negotiations to bring on additional staff.

"These recent claims are false; we are actually hiring five more permanent people right now," it said.

"There are no job losses. In fact, there will be pay offers on the table.

"This is how every other seasonal manufacturer operates but our current agreement is confusing and prohibitive."

Mr Davie said a large proportion of XXXX was now made at the Tooheys Brewery in Lidcombe in Western Sydney, West End in South Australia and, in some circumstances, at the Boags Brewery in Tasmania.

Doubts about the future location of the brand's production coincides with the end of their long term naming-rights sponsorship of Queensland's State of Origin team with Wednesday night's series decider at Suncorp Stadium.

But XXXX remain a major sponsor of the Maroons after announcing a new four-year deal last month.
