The 2012 Olympics gave Britain a reputational boost at home and abroad at a time when the nation was struggling with economic recession.

The United States finished top of the medal tally ahead of China and Great Britain, with Australia finishing in tenth place overall.

But at a cost of nine billion pounds ($13.98 billion), were the Games worth the cost? And what did it deliver for the host country, Britain?
