You guys are thieves: Backlash over shrinking Cadbury chocolate blocks

With Cadbury announcing it will shrink family blocks by a row, it might soon feel like a chocolate-loving mouse found the stash before the movie starts.

Australian chocolate lovers will soon have a little less to share around because the Cadbury family block is set to shrink.

Cadbury announced on Tuesday it will be shaving the size of its classic Dairy Milk family blocks by one row, from 220g to 200g.

Other family favourites like Black Forest, Hazelnut and Snack will also be reduced to 200g from 210g.
'We chose to keep Cadbury chocolate affordable for families'
Cadbury says rising manufacturing costs are behind the decision, which came down to either raising the recommended shelf price or shrinking the size.

"We've reached a point where we can no longer absorb these increasing costs into the price of our chocolate blocks," the company said.

"We chose to keep Cadbury chocolate affordable for families across Australia."

But chocolate fans are not happy about the news, with many taking to social media to express their disapproval.
'What do you take us for? You guys are thieves'
"What do you take us for? You guys are thieves, you want to cut it down and charge us the same? You are plain greedy," Kyria Economidis wrote on Cadbury's Facebook page.

"It just got less affordable since the family now has to buy more blocks to share the same amount," Greg Tivey posted.

"Very sad news. The size of the family block just keeps getting smaller," Lisa Azzi wrote.

"Last year alone you profited $127 million so maybe lose a row of that?" Brayvid Mattherson posted.
