A group of young people from Australia and Turkey has just completed a trek through the historic, rough terrain at Gallipoli, in Turkey.

The trek was part of the bi-annual "Mateship Trek" which has previously included places like Kokoda.

This year, as both Australia and Turkey prepare to mark the centenary of the Gallipoli campaign, 12 young adults from both countries retraced the steps of the soldiers during the catastrophic mission in 1915.

Among them was the federal opposition's communications spokesman, Jason Clare.

He told Erdem Koc in Istanbul it was vital that both sides of the Anzac story were considered on the journey.
