Young cricket talent stepping up in Shield

A couple of teenagers regarded as future Test stars have already proven they're capable of producing the goods in the Sheffield Shield.

TEEN TALENT ALREADY STEPPING UP IN SHEFFIELD SHIELD:

* JASON SANGHA (NSW): Age: 19 First-class games: 5 First-class batting average: 33.66 Maiden Shield ton was followed by immense praise from Kerry O'Keeffe, who described him as Australia's best technical batsman since Ricky Ponting. Sachin Tendulkar is the only player to have scored a first-class century against England at a younger age.

* JACK EDWARDS (NSW): Age: 18 First-class games: 3 First-class batting average: 37 Last month became the youngest player to post a century in the domestic one-day competition; last week celebrated his maiden Shield ton. Towering batsman who scores freely and in a hurry; has been likened to Kevin Pietersen.

* LLOYD POPE (SA): Age: 18 First-class games: 3 First-class bowling average: 38.55 The latest young legspinner living in the shadow of Shane Warne. Snared a record 8-32 at this year's under-19 World Cup and recently became the youngest bowler to take seven wickets in a Shield innings.

CAMERON GREEN (WA): Age: 19 First-class games: 5 First-class bowling average:13.72 First-class batting average: 18.8 Highly rated allrounder who was invited to train this year with the Australia A squad in India. Back injuries have stalled his progress but grabbed a stunning match haul of 9-42 last month at the WACA.
