Young girl dies after Wollongong ATV crash

A 10-year-old girl who was critically injured when the all-terrain vehicle she was a passenger in crashed into a fence in Wollongong has died in hospital.

A young girl has died of the injuries she suffered two days ago when an all-terrain vehicle, with two other youngsters on board, crashed in Sydney's south.

About 10.20am on Sunday, emergency services were called to a property in Marshall Mount in Wollongong on reports a young girl had been injured in a crash involving an ATV.

Police were told the driver lost control and crashed into a fence with three passengers on board.

The 10-year-old girl, from Birrong, was airlifted to the Sydney Children's Hospital in Randwick where she died on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old female driver, from Marshall Mount, was taken to Wollongong Hospital with minor injuries and underwent mandatory testing.

Two 11-year-old girls were also treated for minor injuries.

A number of people were staying together on the property, a police spokeswoman told AAP.

An investigation is under way into the events leading up to the crash.
