Young Saints collapses in AFL training

St Kilda defender Hugh Goddard was rushed to hospital after he collapsed during a Sunshine Coast training camp.

St Kilda defender Hugh Goddard will spend the night in hospital after suffering heat exhaustion during AFL pre-season training.

The AFL website reported that Goddard was rushed to hospital after he staggered and collapsed on Monday during a running session.

The Saints were training on Queensland's Sunshine Coast when the incident happened.

After club officials helped Goddard with water, ice bags and cold towels, paramedics also gave him an IV drip.

"Hugh pushed himself probably a little too hard," Saints football manager Jamie Cox said.

"He suffered the effects of the sun and he has had to be taken to hospital just to be monitored.

"We can fortunately say he is going okay.

"He will stay in tonight but he's doing really well, which is pleasing."

Goddard, 19, was the Saints' second pick at No.21 last year in the national draft.

He made his senior debut in round 16 and played the last games of the season.

The Saints are two days into their Queensland pre-season camp.
