Young woman dies after Sydney truck smash

A young woman has died after suffering severe head injuries when a truck crashed into the back of her hatchback on a major highway in western Sydney.

A young woman has died in hospital two days after a truck crashed into the back of her hatchback in Sydney's west.

The 24-year-old had stopped her Suzuki Swift at an intersection on the Great Western Highway in Blacktown on Monday night when it was rear-ended by a truck carrying an excavator and pushed onto the median strip.

The woman suffered severe head injuries and died in hospital on Wednesday, NSW Police said.

The 35-year-old truck driver has been tested for drugs and alcohol while his truck has been seized for mechanical tests.
