Young woman robs Sydney air force base

Police are searching for a woman who robbed a bank at the Royal Australian Air Force base at Richmond in Sydney's northwest.

An armed woman has robbed a bank at a large air force base in Sydney's northwest.

Dressed in black and wearing a balaclava, police say, she pulled a gun on a female staff member at a bank at the Royal Australian Air Force base at Richmond on Wednesday afternoon and took cash before fleeing.

The heavily secure military base has its own post office, credit union and public transport, Fairfax reports.

A crime scene has been established and police are searching for the woman.

She's described as Caucasian and about 20-years-old.
