A prominent Sydney social worker, and contender for the 2012 Australian of the Year award, has become the face of Clubs Australia's campaign against poker machine reform.

Father Chris Riley says mandatory pre-commitment will kill clubs in the underprivileged areas where his charity operates.

But critics have lashed out at the priest saying he is biased because of the money he receives from clubs.
