NBN chief and former Telstra boss Ziggy Switkowski has added another feather to his cap with Healthscope appointing him as a non-executive director.

This is on top of his role as Suncorp chairman and executive chairman at NBN Co.

The 67-year-old is also a non-executive director of Tabcorp and Oil Search, and is chancellor of Australia's largest tertiary institution, RMIT University.

Healthscope chairman Paula Dwyer said Dr Switkowski will bring a wealth of senior business experience to the role at the private hospitals and medical centres operator.

"His broad business acumen and depth of public company experience will complement the skill set of the Healthscope board," Ms Dwyer said.

Dr Switkowski, a nuclear physicist, has previously served as a non-executive director of Healthscope, between 2006 and 2010.

He will take up his new role of independent non-executive director at Healthscope on April 4.
