The jury is out on not only when injury-plagued Gold Coast Titans co-captain Will Zillman will make his NRL return but also what position he will play.
Fill-in fullback David Mead has hinted regular No.1 Zillman may make his long awaited comeback in the centres for the Titans.
Mead was initially expected to make way for Zillman when the co-captain recovered from a calf injury.
Zillman has not played since round 10 last year due to a back injury that required surgery.
But Mead's impressive showing as Gold Coast custodian may have made coach Neil Henry think again.
Mead said he would continue to train at fullback ahead of Saturday's clash in Canberra and hinted that Zillman may fill a gap at centre.
Henry considered slotting ex-Queensland backrower Chris McQueen in as three-quarter ahead of last round's home clash with Wests Tigers after Nathan Davis (shoulder) broke down.
In the end, Henry injected ex-South Sydney flyer John Olive but may consider Zillman if he is finally given the all clear.
"When Zilly comes back he will either play fullback or centre or I will play fullback or wing," Mead said on Monday.
"It doesn't bother me.
"(But) I haven't spoken to Neil about that - they are happy for me to keep training at fullback."
Asked when he expected his co-captain to return, Mead said: "I am not too sure to be honest, it's a week to week thing.
"He is doing his recovery the best he can."
Mead again turned heads at fullback in Gold Coast's upset 30-18 last round win over Wests Tigers, making 187m.
He has effortlessly combined with new halves pairing Ash Taylor and Tyrone Roberts to date.
But it seems fans ain't seen nothing yet.
"I didn't train at fullback as much as I wanted to (in pre-season) because I didn't expect to play there at the start of the year so it's still new to me," Mead said.
"That position will always be a work in progress for me.
"But I guess that's a positive for us.
"We are still winning while working out our combinations and how we play together."
The Titans (2-1 record) have so far defied critics who dismissed them as pre-season wooden spoon favourites.
They have won both home games to date and five straight on the Gold Coast overall.
But Mead admitted they would remain under the radar until they won away.
