She's been described as Zimbabwe's top human rights lawyer and she's in Australia to deliver the annual human rights lecture at the University of New South Wales.

Beatrice Mtetwa has been defending activists, lawyers, journalists and opposition candidates in Zimbabwe for decades and has been beaten by the police for her trouble.

Beatrice Mtetwa says she was able to work largely unhindered until about 15 years ago, which was when Zimbabwe's opposition parties started mobilising against President Robert Mugabe's ruling Zanu PF party.
