A zookeeper has been gored by a rhino on the NSW south coast.

The 47-year-old woman suffered a serious arm wound on Wednesday after she was gored by Kai, a southern white rhino, at Mogo Zoo south of Batemans Bay, a NSW Ambulance spokeswoman told AAP.

The senior keeper was completing a routine procedure when she was injured, Mogo Zoo said in a statement. The zoo will review its procedures with an internal investigation underway.

"Whilst all safety measures are taken to minimise risk for both animals and keepers occasionally accidents can occur when dealing with large megafauna," zoo owner Sally Padey said.

The woman was transported to Moruya airport in a stable condition with a suspected fractured arm. She was then airlifted to Canberra Hospital.
