Zverev gaining in gym and on Open court

Advancing to the Australian Open fourth round, German Alexander Zverev says he's still called the skinny dude on tour despite adding 15 kilograms to his frame.

Don't expect world No.4 Alexander Zverev to be rocking a Rafael Nadal muscle shirt anytime soon despite some big gains in the gym.

After eliminating Australian surprise packet Alex Bolt from the Australian Open with a straight sets win in their third round clash, Zverev revealed he'd put on 15 kilograms since working with renowned fitness trainer Jez Green.

Green worked for many years with former world No.1 Andy Murray.

Zvererv, 21, joked that no-one had noticed his weight gain - now 90kg - on his 198cm frame.

"I'm disappointed - I'm still the skinny dude on tour, even though I put on about 15kg," Zverev told Jim Courier during their on-court post-match interview.

"When he (Green) started working with Andy, you can actually see he became one of the strongest dudes on tour, whereas I'm still looking like ... I have been called asparagus or something a few times."

Courier suggested Zverev adopt Nadal's trademark sleeveless shirt for his round four clash with Milos Raonic to show off is muscles but the German didn't think it would have the same affect.

"Who is gonna be scared of that? Rafa puts that on it is intimidating but everybody might start laughing so I will keep away from the sleeveless," he said.

Even if it's not entirely visible the new fitness regime is working.

Zverev won the ATP World Tour Finals in London in November, dominating world No.1 Novak Djokovic in the final after overcoming Roger Federer in the semis, and is considered next in line for a grand slam title.

It's the first time he's gone beyond the third round at Melbourne Park.
