Aussies to draw on past T20 success

All-rounder Glenn Maxwell says Australia will try to draw on last summer's success when they host India in a three-match Twenty20 series starting on Wednesday.

Wins have been so hard to come by that Australia will try to draw on last summer's success when they host India in their Twenty20 International series opener in Brisbane on Wednesday.

World No.3 Australia lost their fourth straight T20 game after South Africa claimed a 21-run win in Saturday's rain-shortened, 10-overs-a-side clash on the Gold Coast.

Overall Australia have lost six of their last eight T20s.

It is another blow to an Australian side still reeling from the ball tampering scandal, a scathing review and a 2-1 one-day series loss to the Proteas.

But all-rounder Glenn Maxwell reckoned Australia could still gain confidence from last summer's Trans-Tasman tri-series success.

In February Australia threatened to snatch the world No.1 ranking when they went through the tri-series undefeated, beating England twice and overcoming New Zealand.

"After the way we played T20 cricket last summer at home ... I think that's what had us really excited," said Maxwell, who top scored with 38 on Saturday night.

Maxwell also reckoned their recent T20 record should be kept in perspective.

"If you look at who we have played since our home series we have come up against the No.1 team twice - Pakistan are the benchmark in the world," he said.

"I am sure things will turn around."

Maxwell kept his fingers crossed Australia regained their touch in the three-match series against world No.2 India after complaining of not getting the rub of the green.

"It (the Gold Coast loss) is certainly frustrating. It feels like we're doing all the right things in practice but the results aren't quite going our way.

"The little things just seem to go against you, and it can be a harsh game sometimes when the momentum is against you.

"We'll regroup. I think (coach Justin Langer will) be pretty optimistic."

Besides his batting heroics, Maxwell also took 1-14 and two catches, including an impressive juggling effort around the boundary rope to dismiss dangerman Faf du Plessis (27).

But Maxwell reckoned he still had a point to prove.

"We still haven't won much so I still have plenty to prove," he said.

"I have always judged how my game is going on the success of the team I am playing for.

"Unfortunately they are not having a lot of success at the moment. It is certainly frustrating."
