Baden jumps Olympic qualifier in Cairns

Joel Baden has equalled the Rio Olympics high jump qualifying mark of 2.29m, making him eligible for selection.

Australian high jumper Joel Baden is set to go to Rio after posting his first Olympic qualifying jump.

The 20-year-old cleared the qualifying mark of 2.29m at the North Queensland Games in Cairns on Sunday, equalling the personal best he set in 2014 in Melbourne.

It means Baden is now eligible for Olympic selection in the event alongside already-selected Brandon Starc.
