Bomb hoaxes evacuate Melbourne hospital

Sixty patients and staff have returned to Epworth Hawthorn hospital in Melbourne after two bomb threats forced their evacuation.

Two bomb threats which sparked the evacuation of a Melbourne hospital are being treated as a hoax.

Sixty patients and staff from Epworth Hawthorn were evacuated to a nearby park after the hospital received the threats by telephone shortly after 8am on Tuesday.

The area was deemed safe by police just before 10.30am and the phone calls are now subject to investigation.

An Epworth Healthcare spokeswoman said surgery and procedures will go ahead as planned.

Police evacuated surrounding buildings and roads and public transport in the area were also affected.
