Lives and homes are in danger from an out-of-control bushfire north of Perth.

A watch and act alert has been issued for the north-eastern part of Nilgen in the Shire of Gingin.

"The alert level for this fire has been upgraded as fire conditions have intensified," the Department of Fire and Emergency Services said on Tuesday afternoon.
