Australia's Catherine Martin has taken out the awards for best production and costume design in the Great Gatsby at the Bafta Awards in London.

Some of the biggest stars of the big screen are out in London for the British Academy Film Awards, where Martin's husband and Gatsby director Baz Luhrmann and Australia's Cate Blanchett are also up for an award.

The ceremony opened with a performance by Tinie Tempah and Laura Mvula, before Oprah Winfrey handed the award for outstanding British film to Gravity, winning against Rush and Philomena.

Frozen has been named best animated film.
