Billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk has revealed a "tiny kid-sized submarine" that he believes could free the children stuck in the Thai cave.
In a series of tweets on Monday, Mr Musk shared footage of the escape pod developed by his private space exploration firm SpaceX.
Mr Musk said the device is on its way to Thailand and will "hopefully" be useful.
He had previously tweeted that he had decided on the mini-submarine after getting "feedback from Thailand".
The device is fitted with oxygen ports and is light enough to be carried by two divers.
Mr Musk said on Friday he was sending teams from SpaceX and his engineering firm Boring Co to Thailand to assist with the rescue.
But the efforts may be in vain, with four of the schoolboys already out of the cave and a new phase of the mission reportedly to begin on Monday.
In a press conference, head of the rescue Narongsak Osottanakorn said the operation got underway sooner than expected as "[Sunday] was the best situation – in terms of kids' health, water and our rescue readiness".
South African-born Mr Musk has launched the electric carmaker Tesla and the neurotechnology firm Neuralink in addition to SpaceX and Boring Co and became one of the world's richest individuals after cashing out from the financial startup PayPal.
