Our roving reporter in Sydney has found a lonely group of Paraguay fans at a pub full of Socceroos supporters in Bondi.

Sporting his team's red, white and blue, one fan said the atmosphere was "very intimidating".

"I mean there’s not many Paraguayans in Australia, but you know we have a small group … it’s pretty exciting," he said.

"Hopefully one-nil to Paraguay."

"I’m pulling a sickie … I hope my boss doesn’t see this."

Sickies aplenty in Fed Square

Our social producer Pranjali Sehgal is downstairs at the Fed Square watch party.

She's asking fans how many of them called in sick to work today.

The answer? Uh, a lot.

Two men — one wearing an Australian flag and straddling a blow-up kangaroo — said they had both taken leave today.

"I used my service leave," one said. "I put it on the calendar a while ago when the fixtures were released.

Two other men Pran spoke to said they hadn't taken sick leave off for the event (rostered days off, of course), but had some pointed words for their friends who had gone into work.

"It's un-Australian not to take the sick leave to get it off," they said.

Okon: 'Worked out how we planned'

Socceroos assistant coach Paul Okon has just spoken. Here's what he had to say.

"I think it sort of worked out how we planned. We're dominating the ball," he said.

"We didn't expect Paraguay to change their shape. They've gone to a back five.

"It means that we have an extra player in midfield, and I think we've seen him a couple of times, Cristian Volpato coming into that pocket, picking up balls.

"I think we just need to be a little bit more efficient around the box and create more moments, more dangerous moments to score."
