Match report
France's hope at a third world cup title was thwarted by a textbook performance by the reigning European champions.
Deschamps: 'We were second best'
French coach Didier Deschamps was obviously disappointed after the match. Here's what he had to say:
"The players are devastated, but we have to be clear-headed: technically, we were second best," he said.
"That is on us.
"We lacked technical precision and energy. The Spanish are very good at breaking up moves by reading interceptions and passes. We would have liked to cause them more problems going forward."
France will play in the match for third place against either Argentina or England at 7am on Sunday (AEST).

Porro: 'Dream come true'
Here's what Pedro Porro, Spain's second goal scorer and the player of the match, had to say after the match.
"A dream come true … to be honest, I never even imagined anything like this, not even in my wildest dreams," he said.

And Spain are through to the World Cup final for just the second time in history after a dominant display.
The last time Spain qualified for the final was in 2010, when they went on to win against the Netherlands, their first and only World Cup title.
They came into this tournament as favourites, having won last year's European Championship against England.
Their unbeaten streak now extends to 37-matches, tying the all-time international men's record with Italy.
It's heartbreak for France, the 2018 winners and 2022 runner-ups, who have been dominant in this tournament.
Spain will play either England or Argentina in the final at 5am Monday (AEST) at New York New Jersey Stadium.
England and Argentina will play in the other semi-final at Atlanta Stadium at 5am tomorrow.
