More than half of NT voters case their vote before election day
According to the Northern Territory Electoral Commission, 75,537 Territorians cast their vote before election day, whether through pre-polling, postal votes or mobile voting booths.

That is more than 53 per cent of all eligible voters in the NT.

Election turnout in the NT tends to be lower than other jurisdictions, with just 74 per cent of eligible voters taking part in the 2016 territory elections.

The rundown for today
My name is Naveen Razik, and I’ll be bringing you the latest on the vote over the next few hours, with the help of our Northern Territory correspondent Aneeta Bhole who is on the ground in Darwin.

Here’s how we expect today to go:

Polling places across the territory opened at 8am ACST (8:30am AEST) and will close at 6pm (6:30pm AEST) central time.

Soon afterwards, the first results should begin to trickle in.

But there are no guarantees we’ll see a decisive winner tonight, given the high level of pre-poll voting and the tight nature of this contest.

The Northern Territory election is underway
Good morning and welcome to our rolling coverage of the 2020 Northern Territory election.

We'll be posting updates here throughout the day as politicians take their last chance to win over voters.

Before we let you know what's been happening around the grounds this morning, here's a quick recap of what's at stake today from our Northern Territory correspondent Aneeta Bhole.
