Majority lack sympathy for citizenship MPs

A majority of Australians believe federal politicians holding dual-citizenship should be kicked out of parliament for breaching the constitution.

A majority of Australians don't believe federal politicians found to hold dual-citizenship should sit in the parliament.

A Newspoll published in The Australian on Tuesday found 51 per cent backed section 44 of the constitution banning dual-citizenship holders, against 38 per cent who didn't.

As well, 46 per cent of the 1728 voters polled were against a referendum to amend the constitution, with 43 per cent in favour.
