A Melbourne mother and her daughter have died following a car crash near Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, according to local reports.

Claire Penno, 32, and her daughter Anaishe were on holidays with her husband Emmanuel Ngoni Mpofu, 34, and his 14-year-old son on Thursday.

Mr Mpofu reportedly lost control of the vehicle while driving with the family near Victoria Falls, according to the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation.

The vehicle veered off the road and overturned. Ms Penno and her daughter died at the scene.

Mr Mpofu and his son survived the accident and were admitted to Victoria Falls Hospital.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Ms Penno's family bring her body, and that of her daughter, back to Australia.

The creator of the page, Bhekizulu Zwangobani, wrote: "Claire and Ngoni have touched so many lives, they have always valued the relationships they have had with people and were not only good together, they also made someone special in Anaishe.

"Claire was just an innately good and wonderful person, passionate about welfare of all people, and compassionate beyond measure.

"She loved and centred her life on the welfare of children, their education and expanding their potential. She was amazing, she was beautiful inside and out and she was loved.

"Anaishe was just starting her life, full of character, personality and such intelligence. She had so much potential to bring to the world.  She was her parents and grandparents' world and she was truly loved."
