US Attorney General William Barr says Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation did not find that President Donald Trump or members of his campaign worked with Russia during the 2016 presidential election.

The investigation "did not establish that members of the Trump campaign conspired or co-ordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities," Barr told a news conference on Thursday.

Barr said the Mueller report confirms the Russian government sought to meddle with the 2016 US presidential election.

However Mueller found no evidence that any American conspired or co-ordinated with the Russian government, the attorney general said.

Barr said he will send a redacted version of Mueller's report to Congress at 11 am local time on Thursday.
