NSW Environment Minister Matt Kean will lead a review into the use of plastics in the state and develop a "comprehensive" policy on the issue.
The NSW government is working on a plastics policy that could lead to the state banning single-use plastic bags.
The review is being led by Environment Minister Matt Kean and comes after major supermarket operators Coles and Woolworths last year stopped giving customers free bags for their shopping.
"I'm certainly very concerned about single-use plastic bags, and plastics in general, polluting our natural environment," Mr Kean told The Sydney Morning Herald on Tuesday.
"That's something I want to tackle head-on."
