Christian Petracca has become the third Melbourne player to earn an AFL Rising Star nomination this season.

Petracca was nominated for the award after tallying 21 possessions in the Demons' 63-point win over Brisbane in round nine.

The No.2 draft pick from 2014 has impressed this year after missing the entire 2015 season because of a knee reconstruction.

"Christian was made to earn his spot at senior level after his long layoff with injury," Melbourne coach Paul Roos said.

"We've seen him improve steadily and each week in his first four games and it's good to see his hard work pay off with a nomination."

Demon Clayton Oliver earned the year's first Rising Star nomination, while teammate James Harmes was nominated after starring in round seven.
