Australia will no longer allow thousands of Iranians with temporary visas to enter the country.
Critics say the move is designed to prevent Iranians making onshore claims for asylum out of fear for their safety, like some members of the Iranian women's football team did earlier in March.
Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke says more than 7000 Iranian temporary visa holders will be blocked over concerns they might be unable or unwilling to return home amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The U-S says it is very close to meeting its core objectives in Iran.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt says more strikes could come if Iran fails to accept the reality of the current moment.
But Ms Leavitt has continued to insist that U-S and Iran are in ongoing talks even as Iranian officials deny it.
"Talks continue. They are productive, as the president said on Monday, and they continue to be. However I saw a 15-point-plan that was floated on media, I would caution reporters in this room from reporting on speculative points, speculative plans from anonymous sources. The White House never confirmed that whole plan."

A U-S jury has ruled that Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, knowingly harmed children’s mental health and concealed what it knew about child sexual exploitation on its social media platforms.
Chief judge Bryan Biedscheid says the New Mexico jury determined Meta prioritised profits over safety.
"So, on question one, did META violate the Unfair Practices Act by engaging in an unfair or deceptive trade practice? The jury answers yes. Question two, did Meta act wilfully by engaging an unfair or deceptions trade practice? The answer is yes."
Meta and YouTube have also been found liable in a similar case in California.
Jurors had been sequestered in deliberations for more than a week before reaching their verdict.

New ambulances have been delivered to a Jewish community emergency service in London, after four vehicles were torched in an arson attack.
Hatzola's chair Shlmoimie Richman says everyone is concerned about what happened - but they are determined to keep moving forward with the vehicles loaned to them from the London Ambulance Service.
"We can't we don't have time to sit and grieve and, you know, cry over this event. We need to move on and continue the service that we provide. We have dedicated volunteers whose sole purpose in life when they give up time from their families and work is to save lives.”
Meanwhile London police have arrested two men suspected of being involved in the torching of the ambulances at Golders Green.
But Head of Counter Terrorism Policing Helen Flanagan says CCTV footage suggested there were at least three people responsible for the arson.

A cyclone that has weaved its way across northern Australia before weakening is forecast to slam into the mainland for a third time.
Tropical cyclone Narelle is predicted to impact the Pilbara coast of Western Australia as a severe category four system tonight.
James Ashley from the Bureau of Meteorology says destructive winds, large waves, and abnormally high tides are possible over the next few days, depending on where the cyclone makes landfall.
"Tropical Cyclone Narelle is expected to turn towards the south on Friday. And the timing of that turn is critical into where the system will track from there on."

Queensland deputy premier Jarrod Bleijie says the 2032 Brisbane Olympics will be the first since 2004 to not have an emissions target.
The Paris Olympics aimed to reduce carbon emissions by over 50 per cent compared to Tokyo, while Los Angeles is aiming for an additional 10 per cent reduction on top of that.
When it was first announced in 2021, the Brisbane games had been spruiked as the first "climate positive" games - but the Deputy Premier has told a Queensland Media Club lunch emissions are not a priority.
