Thousands of people, including the Governor-General, have gathered at Sydney's Centennial Park to call for an end to gender-based violence.
The seventh annual Walk for the Women's and Girls' Emergency Centre raises funds and awareness of violence against women and children.
Organisers say the walk comes at a critical moment with 49 Australian women killed so far this year.
The Emergency Centre currently supports around 200 women and children every night by providing crisis accommodation, housing and recovery programs.
Governor-General Sam Mostyn attended the walk and says violence against women is an endemic problem in Australia.
"I think we have to reflect on the fact, do we want to be a country that every 10 days is dealing with the murder of a woman by a current or former intimate partner. That just doesn't feel like the place we call want to live in, so we all have to play our part in calling out bad behaviour, paying attention to this issue and not letting it just be a women's issue. It's a community issue."

New daily screen time limits will be introduced across public schools in New South Wales next year, in an attempt to lift educational outcomes.
The caps will range from no individual device use for kids in public pre-schools, to half of the time per subject for students in years 11 and 12; and will be mandatory from 2028.
New guidelines will also recommend a minimum of one hour a day of learning using pen and paper, based on the evidence of the learning benefits.
State education minister Prue Car says the government's research has identified excessive screen use as a problem, while there also been a decline in reading and writing skills.
State opposition frontbencher, Anthony Roberts, says resources must be provided to assist in the transition.
"We welcome it, but again what resourcing are teachers going to have when those children go off their screens. As a father of four young boys. I understand the challenges of children being on their screens for longer than they should be. It is great to get the headline for it. But what are they going to do actually resource those teachers adequately in the classroom itself?"
According to the OECD's Programme for International Student Assessment, Australian students are nearly twice as likely than average to spend more than 2 hours per day using digital devices for learning.
The OECD data also shows academic results for Australian students are falling, particularly among 12 to 15-year-olds in reading and writing.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says the country will not stop fighting in Ukraine during possible peace talks.
He says Russia is open to negotiations, but military actions would not be halted by any talks.
Mr Lavrov also responded to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s proposal to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin - at the G20 summit in Miami coming up in December.
He says while he had not heard about that request personally, he is urging Mr Zelenskyy to visit Mr Putin in Moscow, saying the invitation has been sent in what he called a "huge goodwill gesture".
"We remain open to negotiations. However, the special military operation will not be halted for the duration of the talks. We have already been through that experience and have drawn our own conclusions."

Two men have been restrained on a flight from Melbourne to Doha after being involved in a physical altercation and claiming they had a gun, on a Qatar Airway flight.
The airline says the men were handed over to local authorities on arrival.
Media reports says the men made violent threats towards passengers and crew, including claiming they had a gun.

The world's largest fully-electric ship has arrived in the Uruguayan port of Nueva Palmira, after being built in Tasmania.
The China Zorrilla - named after a Uruguayan actress - will be towed to the port of Colonia del Sacramento for final preparations before entering commercial service between Buenos Aires and Colonia on the Rio de la Plata.
Director of Uruguayan shipping company Buquebus, Juan Carlos Lopez Mena, says the ship can carry up to 2,100 passengers and 225 vehicles.
He says the electric ship is an important step towards sustainability.
"When we start talking about the environment we think of our children, our grandchildren, those who are to come. Emissions must be reduced, that is a very important thing."

To sport and in tennis,
Elena Rybakina has won her first US Open title, defeating two-time champion Aryna Sabalenka 6-4 7-5 6-2.
The win means Rybakina has now won three of the four grand slams across her career, including both the US and Australian Opens this year.
Rybakina also secured the number one spot in world tennis rankings.
She says she didn't expect the win.
"I've been dealing a little but with an injury but somehow everything aligned together on my side and I just want to say Aryna you are a great champion, it's so difficult to play against you, you pushed to such a limit, I was darting on the court and just trying to get all the possible balls, so just congrats to you for the achievements."
The men's final will be played tomorrow morning with Alexander Zverev taking on Ben Shelton.
