Beaches remain closed across Sydney's north after the 'tragic' fatal mauling of a man by a shark just one day before Father's Day.
Police superintendent John Duncan says the beaches are currently being patrolled to look for shark activity.
"So we've had a number of police boats, Surf Lifesaving, a number of jet skis. They are out looking obviously for the shark. To make sure - to see if we can find it. Obviously, we pass that information on to the Department of Primary Industries, who will be the key agency in terms of locating the shark; and working out what to do next."
The man who died has been identified as a well-known and beloved 57 year old from Dee Why.
Police say he leaves behind a wife and young daughter.

Two boys have been killed in western Melbourne in what police suspect is a series of targeted attacks.
One has been named as a 12 year old who died after being found with critical injuries in the suburb of Cobblebank, while the other is a 15 year old found seriously injured streets away in the same suburb.
Officers say they believe the two attacks are connected, but the exact circumstances are still being determined.

Police say the offering of a million-dollar reward in the manhunt for the suspected shooter of two officers in Porepunkah in August is not a sign investigators have hit a dead end.
Victoria Police announced the bounty on Saturday in the hope it would tempt someone who knows where Dezi Freeman is hiding to contact them, with suspicions he might be receiving assistance from people within his network.
Despite more than 450 officers dedicated to finding Freeman in the past 12 days, no trace has yet been found.
Homicide Squad Detective Inspector Dean Thomas says the reward for information leading to the man's arrest is a sign of their commitment to closing the case by changing the way they would normally engage.
"This reward of up to 1 million dollars is for information that leads to his apprehension not conviction. So I stress to those that are listening that that's what this reward is for. It is for information that leads to his apprehension; and not his conviction."

The Israeli military has again ordered residents in Gaza City to leave, saying its soldiers are operating throughout the city.
Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee has written on X that residents should leave the city for a designated coastal area of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, assuring those fleeing that they would be able to receive food, medical care and shelter there.
Israeli forces have been carrying out an offensive on the suburbs of the northern city for weeks after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the military to capture it.
Netanyahu says Gaza City is a Hamas stronghold and capturing it is necessary to defeat the Palestinian Islamist militants, whose October 2023 attack on Israel sparked the war.

US immigration agents have arrested hundreds at a Hyundai factory in the state of Georgia, stopping work on a plant that is one of the Korean automaker's major investments in the US.
About 475 workers have been arrested in what is the largest single site enforcement operation yet for the Department of Homeland Security, as President Donald Trump's administration continues to escalate a crackdown on immigrants.
Most of the people have been identified as South Korean nationals who the Department alleges either crossed the border illegally or overstayed their visas.
Spokesperson Steven Schrank says due process has been followed as part of their investigation into alleged unlawful employment practices at the plant.
"A multi-month criminal investigation where we have developed evidence, conducted interviews, gathered documents, and presented that evidence to the court in order to obtain a judicial search warrant."

China has condemned the route taken by an Australian warship through the Taiwan Strait.
The People's Liberation Army's Eastern Theatre Command says Australian and Canadian warships have engaged in what they've described as 'trouble making and provocation' by sailing through the contested area.
The command has said in a statement that the ships were followed by Chinese air and naval forces, and that they warned the two ships.
There has been no immediate response from either the Canadian or Australian armed forces.

The Wallabies have scored in the 86th minute to secure another remarkable comeback Test win, this time 28-24 over a slick Argentina in Townsville.
It was Angus Bell who scored the match-winner at close range.
But Wallabies Captain Harry Wilson says it was the team's discipline in the second half that gave them the victory.
"Probably our discipline, in the first half - they really did hurt us there. And we just wanted to hold onto the ball for a few more phases; not give them easy (inaudible) penalties. And I thought we did that. And very proud of the boys. We weren't at our best today. But to find a way to get a win against such high quality opposition, it's a real credit to 'em."
