Advocate Chanel Contos says big tech platforms are radicalising young men into harmful sexual behaviour by promoting misogynistic and extremist content online.
Speaking at the National Press Club, the founder of Teach Us Consent has argued algorithms are driving a new wave of gender-based violence and undermining consent education in schools.
Her comments follow reports linking a Sydney teenager's death to a suspected sexual choking act.
Contos is calling for stronger regulation of social media algorithms and feeds that only show posts from people users follow - unless users explicitly opt out.
"A yearly class on consent has little hope of affecting change when an addictive content producing machine, targeted at teens who ingest it for hours a day, is preaching a contradictory message. The rise of radicalisation of young men into misogyny online is an urgent challenge that must be addressed. Without immediate action, Australia risks a generation of young men being entrenched into ideologies that directly contradict the government's aims in the national plan to end violence against women and children as well as broad a social cohesion."

Australia's economy has outperformed both market and Reserve Bank forecasts, raising the chance of further interest rate rises.
The A-B-S has reported today that the economy grew 2.1 per cent over the past financial year, with GDP rising 0.4 per cent in the June quarter.
Markets are now predicting another cash rate hike by Christmas and a strong chance of a further rise by March.
Economists are warning weak productivity and rising labour costs remain key inflation risks - but Treasurer Jim Chalmers has described the result as robust despite global uncertainty and conflict.
"People are still under pressure but we can see in these national accounts that incomes are growing, housing investment picked up, there's a solid pipeline of business investment and the private economy is driving the growth. When it comes to international benchmarks, our annual growth is as strong as the US and much stronger than every other major advanced economy."

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says he holds grave fears for the Australians who remain missing a week since the devastating floods in Nepal, which have left more than 1,000 people dead and 4,400 people missing.
Australia has sent an RAAF aircraft with hygiene kits, shelter equipment and solar lights to Nepal.
Speaking at the Pacific Islands Forum in Palau, Mr Albanese has said Australia is doing everything it can to support disaster recovery efforts - and he's hoping more Australians will be found safe.
"Today another five Australians have been confirmed safe, but that still means the number of Australians unaccounted for is 38, down from 43 yesterday. But that's 38 families, 38 people we hold grave fears for. We hope of course for positive news further."

Day three of the Pacific Islands Forum in Palau is underway, with Australia announcing a $600 million package to combat drug smuggling in the region.
That includes funds for enhanced aerial surveillance, more training for regional police and border officials.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has called for greater cooperation between border force services to exchange information and intelligence.

The man accused of fatally shooting conservative activist Charlie Kirk last year has pleaded not guilty to murder charges that could carry the death penalty.
23-year-old Tyler Robinson entered the plea after prosecutors presented what they described as strong evidence, including DNA results, video footage and an alleged text message linked to the shooting.
Prosecutors claim Robinson targeted Kirk over the activist's views on gay marriage and transgender rights, while defence lawyers dispute both the evidence and the aggravated murder charge.

Hong Kong pro-democracy activist Joshua Wong has pleaded guilty to a foreign collusion charge under the city's National Security Law.
The 29-year-old is already serving a nearly five-year prison sentence for subversion and had been due for release next year.
Rights groups say the latest prosecution is aimed at keeping one of Hong Kong's most prominent democracy activists behind bars for longer.

North Melbourne has parted ways with coach Alastair Clarkson after four seasons and with a year remaining on his contract.
The Kangaroos' AFL players were called into an impromptu meeting this morning, where they were told that Mr Clarkson would no longer coach the club.
In a statement, club president Sonja Hood has said Mr Clarkson no longer has the belief from enough people at the club that he is the right coach to take this group forward.
