- Death toll climbs to 17 in Lebanon following Israeli strikes
- David Littleproud says Farrer result a ‘flogging’ for Coalition
- Bayern Munich defeat Wolfsburg 1-0 in the German League
The death toll has risen to 17 in a series of Israeli strikes across Lebanon.
State media and the Health Ministry say three Israeli drone strikes on vehicles south of Beirut have killed four people while a series of airstrikes on southern Lebanon killed at least 13, including a man and his 12-year-old daughter.
On Wednesday night, Israel's air force carried out an airstrike on a southern suburb in which Israel said it killed a senior Hezbollah military official.
Talks aimed at resolving the conflict are scheduled to take place in Washington on Thursday.

Nationals MP David Littleproud says the One Nation win in Farrer was a "good old-fashioned flogging", saying the Coalition needs to accept the message being sent by voters.
One Nation candidate David Farley has won the federal by-election in the southern New South Wales seat of Farrer, becoming the first non-Coalition candidate to win the electorate since it was created in 1949.
He tells Channel Nine's Today program there's an opportunity for Angus Taylor to reset after the Budget and demonstrate the Coalition's values and principles.
"And how those policies will reshape and give hope. Because that result yesterday is the anger that's permeating across the country - not just in Farrer - about the hurt that Australians are feeling being bled out of their wallets every week, under this government. And that's the message that's been sent, it's not just to us, it's to the government as well. And there's a very strong message to Anthony Albanese."

The federal opposition has accused the Albanese government of pursuing a potential tax grab ahead of Tuesday’s federal budget, amid reports Labor is considering changes to negative gearing and capital gains tax.
The government is expected to centre the budget on housing affordability and supply, including an extra two billion dollars over four years for roads, water, power and sewerage infrastructure needed to unlock new housing developments.
Speaking to Sky News, Deputy Liberal Leader Jane Hume accused Treasurer Jim Chalmers of changing his position on whether reforms to negative gearing and capital gains tax would affect housing supply.
"In October 2024 ... he said that he'd seen no evidence that either changes to negative gearing or capital gains tax would have an effect on housing supply, because essentially, he's changed his mind now. ... What is the evidence that those changes to negative gearing and capital gains tax will have on the supply of housing in Australia ... because, to be honest, if it's not going to have a significant effect on housing supply, it's simply a tax grab from a cash strapped Labour government that has overspent."

Dozens of Israelis have rallied in Tel Aviv against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, as regional tensions continue around Israel.
Protesters waved Israeli flags, beat drums and held signs accusing Mr Netanyahu of abandoning the country.
The demonstration comes ahead of national elections due by late October, with public anger also growing over exemptions for ultra-Orthodox men from military service.
Retiree David Alkan says Israel faces threats abroad, but also deep divisions at home.
“I’m here to protest against the government, which is a disaster. Our government is going in just the wrong way, they’re feeding the public with fake news, with lies, which we are all against.”

In the first tranche of declassified UFO files released by the Trump administration on Friday, is an Apollo-era photograph showing three unexplained lights in a triangular formation above the Moon’s horizon.
The image, taken during the Apollo 17 mission in 1972, was long rumoured among UFO researchers to exist, and has now surfaced in Department of Defence files.
Supporters claim the image shows one of the mysterious triangular craft long reported in UFO lore, though sceptics say there are more ordinary explanations.
The release also includes military videos and pilot reports, although analysts say there is still no conclusive evidence of extraterrestrial life.
On social media, Former Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene dismissed the release as a distraction.
“I’m so sick of the ‘look at the shiny object propaganda while they wage foreign wars, let rapists and paedophiles run free, and ruin the value of our dollar.”
More tranches of UFO files are expected to be released in the coming weeks and months.

To sport, and in football, Harry Kane missed his first penalty in the Bundesliga this season, but it did not prove costly as champions Bayern Munich eventually ran out 1-0 winners over relegation-threatened Wolfsburg.
The England captain had scored all 10 of his previous spot-kicks in the league but saw his perfect record end as he appeared to slip just before firing the ball high and wide.
It mattered little, though, as Michael Olise struck 11 minutes after the break to given Bayern a 1-0 win at the Volkswagen Arena as they bounced back from their Champions League heartbreak against Paris St Germain.
